Around the Sibyllenbad

1000 ponds stretch through the landscape around Tirschenreuth. Fishermen and fish connoisseurs as well as biker and hiker discovering the area on marked cycle tracks and hiking trails get their money’s worth in the impressive scenery of this nature reserve.
Only 12 kilometers distant from the Sibyllenbad, the monastic town Waldsassen is situated. The Waldsassen collegiate basilica with Germany’s largest church and monastic crypt as well as a magnificent organ belongs to the most significant baroque buildings in Bavaria. Absolutely worthwile is moreover the library of the Cistercian abbey with its hand-carved, life-sized figures by Karl Stilp.
The famous trinity church Kappl is situated near Waldsassen on the Glasberg. The monastic garden with its fragrant herbs and enchanting places is always worth a visit.
Only 20 driving minutes distant in the small market Konnersreuth, visitors can view the birthhouse and grave of Therese Neumann, called Resl, who was beatified in 2005. Also the magnificent rococo parish church is worth seing. Rest and contemplation can be found in the wonderful Resl-garden.
A real insider tipp is the visit to a so-called Zoiglwirtschaft – taprooms which are only to be found in northern Upper Palatinate. Zoigl is a beer which has been brewed for centuries in local breweries and is bottom-fermented with yeast in the cellar of the Zoiglwirt. Together with a good and solid snack, the Zoigl with its yeast is directly served from the storage tank, accompanied by music and good mood. Zoigl calendars with the taprooms are available at the tourist information.
There are numerous destinations around the Sibyllenbad. Very popular are the world-famous Bohemian spas Marienbad and Franzensbad, to be reached within 30 driving minutes only, as well as Karlsbad where emperors and kings used to stroll for ages.
